Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)
Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.
Project II: Final Fantasy IV v2.42 (Aug 28 2019) ==================================================================================================== Disclaimer ========== - No ownership is claimed by vivify93 over Final Fantasy IV or the franchise from which it originates. - Apply this patch only to a headered ?Final Fantasy II (v1.1) (U) [!].smc?. - Send bug reports to vivify93 via PM on ROMhacking.net, or by posting in this project?s topic on RHDN?s Personal Projects board. - If a modder wishes to use this as a base for their project, they are asked to please credit all contributors. - Players are encouraged to keep a backup of their original ROM or project in case an error occurs. Project II is something of a passion project; ever since I was a kid, I?d wanted to get in the guts of FFII US and restore some of the original content. However, it seemed unnecessary, as J2e had released a full translation patch for the Japanese game. Unfortunately, J2e?s translation suffered multiple translators, some of whom inserted inappropriate references and jokes, as well as pulled a plethora of text from Kaoru Moriyama?s US translation. This reality only came to light some time after the superior 3D remake had been released, but still, I knew some craved to experience Final Fantasy IV as a Super Nintendo classic with a more competent script. It was around this time that Pinkpuff released the fantastic FF4kster, a Final Fantasy II US editor. I took it and ran with it, and that, as they say, is that. There were many trials and tribulations I faced to get that first release out back in 2013, and everyone in the credits knows it. I couldn?t have met release without your help. Thank you. And to you, the player: I truly hope you enjoy this labor of my love. Thank you so much for playing Project II: Final Fantasy IV. Notice: I?m never going to restore the original maps. Check out Final Fantasy IV: Namingway Edition by Rodimus Primal if they?re required for personal FFIV enjoyment. https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2337/ ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Overview ======== - Features an entirely rewritten script, taking elements from various translations of Final Fantasy IV. - Restores almost all missing content: use Pray, Salve, and Recall, find SomaDrops and Firebombs in chests, and learn Armor and Shell. Shops have had their inventories and prices restored, and enemies drop their original items. - Applies Protect and Shell Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which makes Armor and Shell more potent. (Credit to Deathlike2) - Applies Sing Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which improves Edward?s Sing command by adding a Paralyze Song, and replacing the Mute Song with a Stop Song. (Credit to Deathlike2) - Applies Goblin Summon Enhancement patch by Deathlike2, which bases Imp?s spell power on Rydia?s Attack stat. (Credit to Deathlike2) - Applies Magic Plus patch by Deathlike2, which makes Sight a Blind spell in battle, and changes Dispel into a Curse magic. (Credit to Deathlike2) - Applies Bit Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which adds spells to three weapons: Power Staff is given Bersk; Flame Whip is given Fire3; Wooden Mallet is given Lit-2. (Credit to Deathlike2) - Applies Long Range Fix patch by Dragoon ZERO, which fixes the incorrect behavior of characters keeping a long range weapon?s range when switching to a normal range weapon (Credit to Dragoon ZERO) - Applies Warp Animation Enabling Patch by Dragonsbrethren, which allows Warp to be cast in battle as an instant death spell. (Credit to Dragonsbrethren) - Applies Medicine Power-up Patch by Phoenix Hacks, which upgrades Edward?s Heal command. It now restores 64-96 HP per person. (Credit to Phoenix Hacks) - Applies Regen Power-up Patch by Phoenix Hacks, which improves FuSoYa?s Regen command. It once healed 255 HP per turn, instead of 10. However, this has been lowered to 160 HP per turn for balance. (Credit to Phoenix Hacks) - Applies Final Fantasy IV: User Options by chillyfeez for extra controls?turn deference, sprinting, Active and Wait ATB modes, and toggleable ATB gauge. (Credit to chillyfeez) - Applies Critical Hit Fix by chillyfeez and Grimoire LD, fixing the incorrect behavior of characters permanently losing the ability to deal critical hits. (Credit to chillyfeez and Grimoire LD) - Rosa?s Pray command is given a 70% chance of working, and casts Cure2 upon success. - Porom?s Cry command, per use, lowers all enemies? Magic Defense by half of her Will rating. - All bows receive +10 to Hit %; Artemis Bow deals 4x damage to dragon-type enemies; Heroine Robe only gives +10 to Strength, Agility, and Vitality, but the -15 penalties to Wisdom and Will are removed. (Taken from FFIV: Easy Type) - New title logo by Paladin, which reads ?FINAL FANTASY IV? in the style of the FFII logo. (Credit to Paladin) - Reverts censored map graphics. - Restores the stripping dancer in Baron Town. - Fixes many additional bugs. Sealed Cave skip bug; Adamant Armor bugs; summoned monster items? descriptions; ?To equip? message; warning that appears when trying to leave key items dropped by enemies; RHand and LHand labels? inconsistence in the battle item menu; Black Robe?s incorrect stat bonus; graphical errors. (Credit to: Grimoire LD for the Adamant Armor bug fixes, Phoenix for the ?To equip? message fix, and Dragonsbrethren for the summoned monster items? bug fixes) - Sirens and Cure3 Potions can be bought from a shop at the end of the game. - Players can acquire the Assassin Dagger and HandAxe, formerly dummied weapons unused even in the original Japanese Final Fantasy IV. - Bonus supplementary lists to the player?s Final Fantasy IV quest. They are not required to play. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Changelog ========= v2.42 - Enemy Warlock (Seeress in Project II) incorrectly dropped Life1 Potions (Revive Potions) instead of SomaDrops. This has been fixed. (Thanks to Nosgothy) v2.41 - Adamant Armor bug fix had an issue where it would make characters permanently weak to fire and ice elemental attacks. Has been fixed. (Credit to 8.bit.fan) v2.40 - Thanks to ChickenKnife and Spooniest, a large amount of dialogue has received a much-needed cleaning up. This project is over five years old, and it needed a wide-scale update. - Two music cues from the original game were missing prior to this release. This has been fixed. v2.31 - Applied the Critical Hit Fix patch by chillyfeez and Grimoire LD. Now, characters who aren?t participating in an auto-battle, and characters who start a battle Wounded, won?t permanently lose their ability to deal critical hits. (Credit to chillyfeez and Grimoire LD) Players will need to start a new game for this fix to work. http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4256/ - Updated readme again. v2.30 - Small updates to several lines. - The stripping dancer in Baron Town has been restored. - Changed the name of ?CharmRod? to ?FairyRod?, ?Silence Staff? to ?Rune Staff?, and ?Charm Arrow? to ?Angel Arrow?. Also updated the Supplements to account for these new names. - Edge?s name variable wasn?t used in a line that needed it; fixed. - Cleaned up an awkward battle message. - Updated readme. v2.22 - Forgot to change Cid?s daughter?s name in one instance. Whoops! - Small update to one of Kain?s lines. v2.21 - Cid?s daughter had her name changed again, this time to a more series-appropriate reference. - A bug existed where the renaming menu?s cursor turned invisible. This has since been fixed. (Thanks to Sephirous for discovering this; credit to Pinkpuff for the fix) v2.20 - I had some friends? names peppered into the script. Those name references have been eradicated in this update, but I kept an added name for Cid?s daughter. - Capitalized all instances of ?Crystal?, except in reference to the final airship?s crystal. - Fixed some typos. - Changed one of Cecil?s lines for translation accuracy. v2.15 - Fixed improper intendation in the ?Can?t leave key item behind after battle? message. - Typo fixes. - Super minor edits to status names. Modern FF games capitalize a status in an item description; (e.g. ?Inflicts an enemy with Poison.?) I felt Project II should do the same. The Supplements have been updated as well. v2.14 - Very minor update. If the player tried to leave behind a key item in battle, it would display garbage text before, even in the original FFII US. Now a proper message is displayed. v2.13 - Noticed part of Paladin?s title screen wasn?t inserted into the game. Fixed. - Small updates to the supplements. v2.12 - Fixed a typo where Damcyan was misspelled as ?Damycan?. (Thanks to Chaos Rush) v2.10 - Reverted the names of the enemies that were once known as Leshy, Marilith, and Bavarois to their original FFII US names of Weeper, Screamer, and Slime. - Dialogue alterations. - Fixed a bug in the display of Silk Web?s name. (Credit to The_Atomik_Punk!) - Finally bit the bullet and inserted one more religious reference into the game: Uncurse Potion is now Cross. - Due to overwhelmingly popular demand, the Star Trek, They Might Be Giants, Batman: The Dark Knight, and ?This isn?t even my final form!? references have been eradicated from Project II?s script. v2.08 - Cid?s underlings now call him Chief instead of Boss. - Updated Cry command incorrectly targeted enemies? Magic Evasion, which isn?t active for foes in FFIV. Fixed to actually lower all foes? Magic Defense, as intended. (Thanks to Grimoire LD) - The supplements have received minor but essential updates. - Yang is now introduced as the High Monk of Fabul, but is still only called a Monk in the menu. - Squashed yet another reference to Yang as a black belt. v2.07 - Updated a line of Yang?s in the Tower of Bab-il. (Credit to The_Atomik_Punk!) - More typo and grammar fixes. (Thanks to Chrysologus and Cavery210) - Updated some text regarding the enemies General and Captain. - Regen has been reduced to healing 160 HP per round, as it overpowered before. (Credit to Chrysologus) - Slightly rewrote part of the conversation in the plot area after getting the final airship. v2.06 - More typo fixes. (Thanks to Chrysologus) - Several equipment names no longer have superfluous words designating their type, such as DarkHelm and FireShld. - Updates to enemy names, taking many of the more interesting-sounding names from the DS and PSP translations. Ensured new names fit within the 8-letter limit. - Minor update to equipment names. v2.05 - Fixed another reference of Yang as a ?black belt.? v2.04 - Incorporates the latest version of chillyfeez?s FFIV: User Options. Players can now press the X Button in battle to instantly switch to another character?s turn. Tutorial text has been updated to account for this. - Due to popular demand, Yang and the Kingdom of Fabul are now monks rather than black belts. (Thanks to The_Atomik_Punk!) v2.03 - Typo fixes and other minor text changes. - Fixed map glitches. v2.02 - Update to include chillyfeez?s bug fixes for Final Fantasy IV: User Options. - Some other typo fixes. - The Final Fantasy II US ROM no longer becomes unheadered after applying Project II to it. - Added detailed supplemental files in a ZIP, packaged with the patch. None of it is necessary to play Project II, since it?s just a tweaked FFIV, but it might help a little! What?s inside: Item List Magic List Command List Spell Acquisition Rates Weapon List Armor List Status Effect Glossary - Porom?s Cry command now reduces all enemies? Magic Defense by half of her Will. v2.01 - The Assassin Dagger, a formerly dummied weapon, has been added in-game! Its Attack has been boosted to 30. The item the chest formerly contained can still be bought. - Added an extra save point in the final dungeon, an idea from FFIV: Easy Type. - The HandAxe, another weapon that used to be dummied, is now available for purchase in Mist. It costs 7,000 GP. - Typo fixes. - Stone is now forced as single-target, and its casting delay was increased. - Revamped the changelog. - Slightly rearranged Rosa and Yang?s battle command lists for accessiblity. Rosa?s new list: ?Fight, White, Aim, Pray, Item?; Yang?s new list: ?Fight, Focus, Brace, Kick, Item?. - Applied chillyfeez?s Final Fantasy IV: User Options mod. Changes: Toggle sprinting by tapping the L Button. Slow mode for airships to fine-tune landings, also toggled by tapping L. Press and hold the X Button to pass someone?s turn to someone else. There are ATB percentage gauges available by pressing the SELECT Button. Pick between Active and Wait battle modes, instead of choosing Stereo and Mono sound. Thanks so much to chillyfeez and contributors! (Credit to chillyfeez) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/2232/ - Added some tutorial text to account for the new options. - Cleaned up and truncated some text to fit the new tutorial text. - Renamed the Project ?Project II: Final Fantasy IV?. v2.00 - At long last, item descriptions are in game! Item_List.TXT has been removed as a result. - Removed more extraneous uses of the il, li, and ll tiles. - Fixed an apparent bug in the Mist forest map. - Fixed a bug where equipping a character with the Adamant Armor, then removing it, makes them weak to fire, ice, and lightning. (Credit to Grimoire LD) - Also fixed a bug where the Adamant Armor has 99% Evade, though it shouldn?t. (Credit to Grimoire LD) v1.03 - Cleaned up typos and other errors. - Rewrote part of the post-battle dialogue for the boss after Calbrina. - Fixed the dialogue of an NPC in Baron. - Reduced the Heroine Robe?s STR, VIT, and AGL bonuses from +15 to +10, and removed the -15 penalty to Wisdom and Will. This was another idea from FFIV: Easy Type. - Updated Cecil?s in-battle walking animation to be consistent with the rest of his sprites. - Replaced some text in the Beginner?s Classroom. Instead of talking about reducing the Battle Message Speed, an NPC helpfully explains that players can insert a second controller to play FFIV with a friend. - Trimmed some redundant text to aid consistency elsewhere in the script. - Warp was still too overpowered, so I lowered its accuracy to 30%, raised its MP cost to 6, and significantly increased the delay time between selecting it and casting it. - Fatal?s casting delay has also been lowered slightly, to make it a more attractive choice over Warp. v1.02 - More typos fixed. - Fixed a crash when Edward?s Sing command uses the new song Halting Aria. v1.01 EMERGENCY FIX - Removed gratuitous use of the il / li / ll digraphs. They still remain where needed. - Changed Cecil?s uses of the word ?Yeah? to ?Yes?. - Updated what Rubicant says upon defeat. - Gave Pray 10% more chance of working, its chance of success now being 20% higher than vanilla FFIV. - Minor typos fixed and clarification added in the main script. - Changed the puzzle at Agart to be a bit more elusive, as intended. (Thanks to Grimoire LD) - Fixed a balance-shattering bug, where Warp used to have a 100% chance of killing anything, even bosses. I remedied this by drastically lowering its success rate to to 40%, and ensured it can no longer be used on bosses. - Upped Fatal?s hit percentage to 70% to make up for the loss of Warp. v1.00 - Slightly altered the font and added in il, li, and ll digraphs. They can also be found in the naming screen. - Restored the dummied battle commands, which have been given proper names. - Added text for the dummied commands? messages. - Named the dummied items. - Adjusted shop inventories and prices to match the Japanese game. - Black magic Psych and twin magic Flare now ignore Wall. - Fixed the summoned monster items? descriptions. (Credit to Dragonsbrethren) - Fixed the ?To equip? message, appearing when players try to equip a character with a two-handed weapon when they?re wearing a shield. (Credit to Phoenix Hacks) - Replaced Roman numerals in the title logo; it now reads ?FINAL FANTASY IV?, but retains the style of the English ?FINAL FANTASY II? logo. (Credit to Paladin) - Altered Rydia?s starting equipment so she?s just wearing a Cloth Robe. After all, an average little girl wouldn?t be armed with adventurer?s gear. (Credit to Dragonsbrethren) - Changed some item and equipment names. - Restored Armor, Shell, and Dispel to Rosa, Porom, Tellah, and Fusoya?s white magic lists. - Applied the Protect and Shell Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which increases the efficacy of those spells. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/484/ - Applied the Sing Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which turns the chance to do nothing into a Hold song, and the Mute song into a Stop song. Sing?s battle text was adjusted for this. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/525/ - Applied the Goblin Summon Enhancement patch by Deathlike2, which bases the Imp summon monster?s attack off of Rydia?s Attack. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/526/ - Applied the Magic Plus patch by Deathlike2, which allows Sight to blind enemies in battle and changes Dispel into a cursing magic. Dispel?s name was changed from ?Dummy? to ?Curse?. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/481/ - Applied Yang?s HP Fix patch by Deathlike2, which fixes Yang?s HP growth past level 60. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/475/ - Applied the Bit Improvement patch by Deathlike2, which allows the Power Staff to cast Bersk, the Flame Whip to cast Fire3, and the Wooden Mallet to cast Lit-2. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/485/ - Applied the Weapon Restoration patch by Deathlike2, which allows the Defense Sword and Murasame to cast Armor, the Elven Bow to cast Shell, and the Lunar Staff to cast Dispel. (Credit to Deathlike2) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/482/ - Applied the Long Range Fix patch by Dragoon ZERO, which fixes it so characters do not keep their weapon?s long range status when switching to a normal range weapon. (Credit to Dragoon ZERO) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/892/ - Applied the Warp Animation Enabling Patch by Dragonsbrethren, which allows Warp to be cast in battle as an instant death spell. (Credit to Dragonsbrethren) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/265/ - Applied the Medicine Power-up Patch by Phoenix Hacks, which makes the Heal command restore 64-96 HP per person instead of 2-20. (Credit to Phoenix Hacks) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/386/ - Applied the Regen Power-up Patch by Phoenix Hacks, which has the Regen command heal 255 HP per turn instead of 10. (Credit to Phoenix Hacks) http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/390/ - Completely rewrote the script. I had tons of fun making Kaoru Moriyama?s dry script seem a bit more palatable to modern tastes. My overall goal was to make FFIV seem more like a natural bridging point between Phil Sandhop?s Final Fantasy and Ted Woolsey?s Final Fantasy VI. My inspiration was the various translations of Final Fantasy IV throughout the years, but much of the dialogue is my own work. In particular, I had a lot of fun writing Cid?s lines. - Altered some enemy names, taking cues from Paladin?s Final Fantasy IV along the way. - Removed the tail icon to improve item names. - Fixed the RHand and LHand labels not appearing in battle for non-ambidextrous characters. - Replaced the circled S save point graphics with the five-pointed stars from the Japanese game?s Sylph Cave. - Reverted the dancer NPC?s sprite. - Reverted the Tower of Zot?s steel orb to a scythe. - Tellah now has 8 more MP. An extra cast of Fire1 always helps! - Changed the FireClaw, IceClaw, and Thunder Claw to cost the same amount of GP. - The CrossBow and Lit Arrows are now also available at Baron?s weapon shop. - The player can no longer cast Warp to get out of the Dwarf Castle?s throne room. - Taking a cue from Final Fantasy IV: Easy Type, all bows? hit ratings were increased by 10%. - Also lifted from FFIV: Easy Type, the Artemis Bow now does 4x damage to dragon-type enemies. - Pray casts now Cure2 instead of Cure1, and has 10% more chance of working. - The Black Robe now gives +5 to Wisdom instead of +5 to Will, as it did originally. - All chest contents have been replaced with what they originally contained. - Enemies now drop their original items. - In addition to the above, all Imp-type enemies can now drop the Imp summon, all Bomb-type enemies can now drop the Bomb summon, and all Cockatrice-type enemies can now drop the Cockatrice summon. - Fixed the visual oddity of Cecil?s disappearing leg armor in battle. - Replaced a chest somewhere with the Magazine. The item that was originally found in that chest can still be bought. - Restored the second Dwarf Castle item shop, at the cost of another NPC. - The hummingway shop now sells Sirens instead of the item that casts Scan, and Cure3 Potions instead of Cure2 Potions. ==================================================================================================== ==================================================================================================== Credits ======= - Grimoire LD for numerous bug fixes to my work, Adamant Armor bug fixes, helping to clean up Agart?s text, and the Critical Hit Fix. http://www.romhacking.net/games/300/ - Pinkpuff and all those who helped create FF4kster. http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/914/ - Rodimus Primal for Final Fantasy IV: Namingway Edition, an offshoot of Project II that retores even more of the original FFIV. http://www.romhacking.net/community/2564/ - chillyfeez for Final Fantasy IV: User Options and the Critical Hit Fix. http://www.romhacking.net/community/3386/ - 8.bit.fan for pointing out the Adamant Armor bug fix error.
