Reboot of the first famed survival horror franchise that inspired Resident Evil and oddly adopting the RE styled gameplay for this reboot. Better graphics, a grittier Detective Carnby and darker take on story, the game takes place during modern times as Edward Carnby travels with Aline Cedrac in a plane as its attacked and crashes. Choose between the two characters, Carnby near the crash and Cedrac in the attic of an ominous mansion. With references and callbacks to previous titles and some other media like lovecraft, the game feels like a loveletter to the genre it created. Over the top weapons, hallucinations, and a light mechanic that later inspired other games such as Alan Wake gives the game some new life to the genre and differs it from the rest. Some flaws are the hallucinations are scripted not random so replays don't change them. Ending is the same with either character. The light mechanic is very underused.
