Smb2jplusDescription

Don’t think this is gonna be a 100% Gold Remake, it’ll have its differences. Extra battles (some’ll be optionals, tough but rewarding), Hoenn Pokemon (in every area, and hard to find) New areas, Remapped some dungeons (so your old guides wont work) , Extra recurring characters (some’ll hate you, some’ll help you)

Note that the hack is incomplete but feel free to enjoy the hack as-is.

SMB2j+ Series One - Dream World
The hack of Super Mario Bros. 2 for Famicom Disk System
©2005-2006 Insectduel

=============================================================================
Description
=============================================================================

This is the hack with all the levels modified and various graphics as well. All worlds modified EXCEPT World 9 which is already Dream World themselves. If you play Acmlm's "The new strange Mario Bros." for the NES, you really gonna love this one. It's a continuation storyline from the new strange Mario Bros. before Strange Mario Bros 2.

=============================================================================
Disclaimer
=============================================================================

I'm not claiming the levels in this hack as my own, they are from other games as well as some good smb1 hacks that are on some ROM sites. I'm not a thief, I just royally suck at making my own levels, and belive me I tried. :P

=============================================================================

Installation
=============================================================================

All you need, except the IPS patch itself, is:

- A IPS patcher (You must get Lunar IPS for this ROM)
- A BIOS File (You must get the DISKSYS.ROM or it won't play SMB2J)
- A NES/FDS emulator (try FCEUXD [Windows], or RockNES Version 1.7 and Higher [DOS])
- An unchanged ROM of Super Mario Bros 2J (if you don't have it, find it.)
- A computer good enough to run any NES game with a emulator (look at the emulator's minimum requirements)
- Direct X Version 7.0 or greater (For running FCEU, FCEUXD and FCEUXDSP)

To install it, use the IPS patcher and follow the instructions to apply the patch on the ROM. When you use the Lunar IPS patcher to patch FDS ROMS, click on the arrow and choose All files instead of Most common ROM files on Files of type.

***Important***
Make sure you make a back up before applying the patch. You will also need to change the ROM's filename before you patch as well. Because certain emulators only work on FDS hacks like RockNES v1.7 or higher and FCEUXD. Some of them would not support any IPS patches to any emulator but RockNES or FCEUltra can make that support.

Make sure your ROM name is the same as the IPS Filename.

The Password for unlocking the Pokemon GFX. But it's in ALL CAPS to type.

The #39th Pokemon

October 12, 2006 - Changes from the Promo version

World A-2 is been fixed. Luigi can Commonly fall to his doom and stops his jumping state by hitting a brick wall. Thanks to Carol for letting me know.

Lowered the Pipe in World C-1 to make Big Characters more fittable. Thanks to Sharon for showing me this.

Weaken World D-1's Difficulty (But it's Still Level E) for a little bit by placing Stop Continuation in one of the Block jumps during the Wind. A big thanks to Sharon, Stalion619, and Carol for this.

Fixed World 5-4. To set one of the Invisible Mushrooms while I test it again.

Was going to Fix 7-2 Entirely but I shouldn't. Let them how to conrtol Luigi.

October 14, 2006 - Few changes from the enabled pointer version of the hack which is done by me.

All level pointers switched in the Bonus Areas in Worlds 1 through 4. Including the cloud areas.

Removed the scroll stop in World 2-1 in the enabled pointer version only.

Changed World 7-2's pointer to World 5-1's Ending. This includes the rest of World 5-1 which in the normal game was difficult. Now you won't have to worry about Luigi not jumping shyguy to shyguy in the enabled pointer version only.

No changes for the cloudy level in Worlds 5 through 8.

Pointers switched in Worlds A through D.

Change level pointers into the real World B-2 in the cloud level.

Fix a bug in Worlds 1 through 4 cloud level where 2 shyguys don't appear in a level.

More Bugs fixed during gameplay.

World 2-2 is replaced with the overworld version of World 4-3.

World 2-4 is even shorter in the enabled pointer version only.

Placed the Pointer in World 7-2 in the beginning of the level for the bypassing lovers without going through the loop.

Replaced various objects with bullet cannons in World B-1. Now you have to run across instead.

October 16, 2006 - Official Release

Plumber Performance
=============================================================================

a. Mario
When Mario jumps, he can clear the height of four blocks on a normal run and five on a dash, which works out to a 25% dash boost. He can also stop with normal accuracy.

Normal jump 4 blocks
Dash jump 5 blocks
Slip 2 blocks

b. Luigi
Luigi clears the height of 5.5 blocks on a normal run and six while dashing. This gives him a 9% dash boost. His four-block slide makes stopping a chore.

Normal jump 5.5 blocks
Dash jump 6 blocks
Slip 4 blocks (Deadly for 2 Grounds)

=============================================================================
Advanced Techniques
=============================================================================

You'll have to protect a few tricky moves in order to successfully explore the challenging lost levels. Take a look and use them as they apply.

a. Dash and jump back
With limited space to run, dash past high target platforms, jump and back up in the air to land safely.

b. Koopa Paratroopa stomp

If the only thing between your character and a far away platform is a flying Koopa. You can bounce off of the turtle for extra distance.

c. Spring Jump

Springs provide minimal extra height if you simply bounce off them. You'll get extra air by jumping when you hit the springs.

d. Bounce on the fly

This variation of the Koopa Paratroopa stomp works for both height and
distance. Dash, jump, and stomp to continue to fly forward.

e. Low slide

If your character is super-sized, he can't run under one block high gaps. Make him dash, duck and slide under the obstacle.

f. Ducking jump

Super-sized characters often hit low ceilings when they jump. To avoid this, you can make them duck first, then jump. (Be sure you dash while you play this hack.)

g. Fall and Curve

If a platform hangs over your destination, you can jump and move in the air to the place that you need to land.

h. Narrow gap dash

If the gap in front of your character is one block in width, there's no need to jump. Just run over the gap with super speed.

i. Enemy stop

Stop Green Piranha Plant and Bullet bill activity by standing next to pipes and cannons where they appear.

j. Power-up wrap around

If there's a Power-Up at the edge of a series of blocks, you can collect it by jumping and changing your direction in the air.

k. Mushroom Rebound

Power-Up Mushrooms always slide to the right. You can make them go the other way by hitting the next block over.

L. Jumping stop

Luigi is the only character that slides too far so often after a jump. You can stop his slide by making him jump straight up; he'll land again with no slide.

M. Mushroom disappearance

Poisonous mushrooms are a real menace. You can make them disappear in certain situations by finding a Power-Up Mushroom in the area. Just pop up one and the other will be gone.

N. Tight Squeeze

In a few very special situations, when you find a gap that is exactly the right width, you can make your character levitate and move to higher ground.

O. Scroll in

If a moving target is off of the edge of the screen before you jump, you'll have very little luck of hitting it. Move slowly to the right until the target is in view.

P. Scroll out

A fire-bar will stop rotating around a block if your character has to move past it to the extent that its center is off the left edge of the screen.

Q. Fireworks

Fireworks sometimes celebrate the end of the level. You can trigger them by grabbing the flagpole when the last digit of the timer is a 1,3 and 6.

R. 1-up pole grab

If your coin total is two of the same digit and you hit the flagpole when the last digit of the timer is the same as the others; you'll walk away with the 1-up.

For example 44 coins, Timer 264

s. Warp zones

There are some warp zones in SMB2J+ including that leads you back to the beginning of the level. Find 'em all.

t. Multiple 1-up Performaces

Some levels let you do you it many times. Either you die after collecting multiple 1-ups or Go back to the same pipe over and over again to collect 'em again until you have 128 lives.

u. Avoiding Hammers

This is actually a glitch in SMB2J. If a running hammer brother come towards you stand next to a wall on the left while he throws hammers at you and jumping at him.

=============================================================================
In game difficulties
=============================================================================

No matter how hard the game is. There are certain requirements to beat each of the levels in Dream World. Some levels can beat so easily with Mario while Luigi has a bad struggle with speed and short gaps. The required power state also let you get through the level as well. The last requirement is to grab all 128 lives just to bide you more time beating some levels.

Also, for those of you still having nightmares about afterworld 8 Super Mario Bros. 1 hacks I'd made: this one should not be as difficult or frustrating or unfair. Aside from that, the levels themselves have been much better made this time around, for hopefully, an almost completely new experience for those who play the game.

Key

Level A - Novice
Level B - Easy
Level C - Medium
Level D - Hard
Level E - Brutal

With Level E in your level, it is really extremely difficult to complete it.

Hints
=============================================================================

The levels have been totally made from scratch, which means you shouldn't be able to find anything from the original levels ...

The new levels will also be harder. World 1 won't be too hard but after that you'll have to be a good player, otherwise you won't get very far.

Even if you know the original levels very well, you will get many surprises. Nothing is like before!

If it becomes too hard, don't be frustrated. If you don't like challenges, play the regular Super Mario Bros 2J, it's the easiest one. (Unless you past the World 5+ levels over and over again.)

=============================================================================
Levels
=============================================================================

World 1 Subcon World

World 1-1: One of the least changed levels, and it's already much different. This level is still easy, but be careful because it's not SO easy.

World 1-2: Choose your path, One of them may lead to the warp zone and the end of the level.

World 1-3: Above you... Just hit the block. Also watch the sparks because you have to jump over them. You will also have to watch the brick lines for any pitholes.

World 1-4: What's that brick in the elevator. Can you break it. If you're big you can, otherwise you won't be able to go to the secret part of the level. If you're playing the enable pointer version of the hack, bypassing the Keys is optional otherwise you'll be locked out!!!

Woeld 2 Tree Islands

World 2-1: If you're playing the enable version of the game going down this pipe may continue your World 1-X journey. If you're playing the normal version of the game you better not joke around. Watch for plant behind the trees Just go to the tip of the pipe and jump over it.

Sub levels: World 1-5

World 2-2: Choose Top or Bottom. Only Luigi can easily take the top path while Mario can go the bottom. Luigi can't barely make any jumps while the ceilng is here. If you're good at the top path with Luigi without dying you won't have to be at the bottom part. Also do not choose the wrong path in the bonus level or you will be at the bottom path.

Sub levels: World 1-6

World 2-3: Nothing much but you can run through walls in this level. Just watch out the Hammer Bros.

Sub levels: World 1-7

World 2-4: Don't be cocky in the Top Path. You have to get the 8 keys to unlock the chamber. Be sure you're more careful in the level and watch out for the guardian.

Sub levels: World 1-8

World 3 Ocean Side

World 3-1: Oh yeah time to grab some 1-ups over and over again. Just make sure you don't reach the pipe that leads to World 1-1. Also the display "WELCOME TO WARP ZONE" should not to shown when you complete this.

Sub levels: World 1-9, World 2-5

World 3-2: Strange underwater level but there's a shortcut to the end including the enable version. But can you figure out how?

Sub levels: World 1-A, World 2-6

World 3-3: If you play Acmlm's Strangebros and you play World 3-3 then you should try out this World 3-3. Instead of Mushroom platforms there are bullet cannons set up for you. Just make sure you get the Fireflower and not the Poison Mushroom.

Sub levels: World 1-B, World 2-7

World 3-4: Red Castle Wall, And the Plant is way behind the Red Walls. If you're Luigi, you can bypass them easily with the single jump. Just try to run fast when the flying Red Cheep Cheeps fly by.

Sub levels: World 1-C, World 2-8

World 4 Palace Gates

World 4-1: If you make it with Big Mario in World 3-4, then you should find the Secret pipe. Try not to be small in this level before you reach it. Flying Bullets or Beezos can strike you with limitless amount of time.

Sub levels: World 1-D, World 2-9, World 3-5

World 4-2: Can you find the invisible mushroom in the bottom path. Try reaching the door while you big. Otherwise you have to take the difficult path or if you already reached the top. Duck jumping is quite good while you in the bottom path in the beginning. If you're luigi, it may be hard to reach the main level's flagpole.

Sub levels: World 1-E, World 2-A, World 3-6

World 4-3: Similar to World 1-3. But there are other items behind the walls. Just keep avoiding the Hammer Bros.

Sub levels: World 1-F, World 2-B, World 3-7

World 4-4: There's a castle in the middle of the level. But it can cause sprites to disappear. Here's the hint. It's the Hammer Bros. Can you kill all of them or ignore all of them or Kill some of them and ignore some. It's your choice but it can be always the be correct answer of your HB choice.

After grabbing the fourth key you will be sent to hell.

Sub levels: World 1-G, World 2-C, World 3-8

World 4-5: You have failed to grab the fourth key. You paid the price. avoiding gates of hell won't find the Princess.

Sub levels: World 1-H, World 2-D, World 3-9

**************** MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD *********************

World 5 Gates of Hell

World 5-1: Levitating Snifits. What the hell is this? Congratulations that you reached the other half of the game but this level is EXTREMELY hard. If you play World 4 of Acmlm's Strangbros. here's the twist of World 5. Jump lightly when you see the long firebar but not too high or you will fall into your death. And don't eat the Poison Mushrooms.

World 5-2: Just like World 4-2 in StrmBro 1, World 5-2 has a few twists as well. Watch for Invisible coins.

World 5-3: You're facing Bowsers in this level but he's already throwing hammers. Weird? But there's the top and bottom paths to clear the level. Just make sure you don't die in the middle of the level or you're at the bottom path.

World 5-4: Luigi is best suited for this level because he can jump in high gaps. Don't let the wind distract you because the wind doesn't blow in castles. If you're big in this level and make it here and bypass Bowser you'll be able to go through the door. Either character can complete this level.

World 6 MHS's World

World 6-1: Welcome to MHS's World 9. If you played Hyper Mario Bros. World 9 but couldn't pass them fairly or you use any save states just to complete it, there's the easier version in SMB2J. Instead of the crazy autoscrolling, the wind took over. (It's still pretty hard)

Sub levels: World 5-5

World 6-2: Again, easier version. But no fast moving firebars this time. Red Pansers deleted some down elevators, so going to the top floor is being blocked in this level. Just keep it cool. However, there's no flgpole in the water level so the enable version would take care of it in World 5-6.

Sub levels: World 5-6

World 6-3: Created my own OW level with minor edits. But you must be BIG Mario or Luigi or you're stuck in this level. There's a door standing here.
But there's the invisible Mushroom at the end before you reach the pipe.

Sub levels: World 5-7

World 6-4: World 9 has it's real castle instead of just 1 Bowser in World 9-3. Luigi is best suited for this level and you also have to be small as well. This level is extremely difficult. Luigi can walk easily while Mario have to use medium speed to reach. Too much speed can kill you and unable to reach but you should run between gaps and Don't stop. Remember that I taught you in the few levels.

Sub levels: World 5-8

World 7 Jar Garden

World 7-1: 4 extra lives, great. You should really enjoy this level and the Jumping Part.

Sub levels: World 5-9, World 6-5

World 7-2: If you're on World 5-A or World 6-6, you just have to run through the level. Otherwise you have to run through the loop and find the Jar that leads to the Bonus level. Only Luigi can reach the four 1-ups in this part. I recommend not to use Luigi in this level because Luigi will have to stomp slightly on the flying gray Shyguys. Mario will have a clearer shot at them.

Sub levels: World 5-A, World 6-6

World 7-3: It's even more harder this time. But the wind plus the surfing platform and Cheep Cheeps are dangerous. Find out how to bypass the door yourself without going in. You better keep the surfing platform in place otherwise you have to leap to reach the ending the hard way.

Sub levels: World 5-B, World 6-7

World 7-4: One of my "lost levels" from my SMB1 hacks is finally in this level. Leap Quickly or you're be fried by the sparky. Don't follow the bullets while you're in the sparky valley. But the Bowser battle is VERY HARD to reach. 2 long fire bars and a bowser face can really kill you. Be sure you have 1 or 2 Beezos with you to the seventh key and the second long fire bar won't appear.

Sub levels: World 5-C, World 6-8

World 8 Shrine Sky World

World 8-1: It's proberly the most difficult level in the game. Flying Cheep Cheeps while you're in the water can really make you mad. It won't be any easier. If you're Luigi, you're proberly jump really good in gusty winds. Be sure to bypass the second hammer brother and grab the flagpole.

Sub levels: World 5-D, World 6-9, World 7-5

Known Bugs (Purposely)
=============================================================================

Bowser is placed in the even part of the page and creates clones of it. The odd part of the page won't be affected like the ones in World D-4.

Happens in all games but the palettes were reset after beating the whole game and the TSA Graphics as well. (GFX Version only)

The other ones DON'T BUG ME. Instead look in my bugs page in my homepage.

If you find a bug that cannot pass a level in both versions, e-mail me at [email protected]
